Painting with Pastels Level 1
Pastels offer the painter pure pigment at their fingertips. This class celebrates the pastel medium in its application and approaches. Traditional techniques will be the foundation of instruction, color and light will be the focus along with essential elements of strong composition. Class time will be spent in the studio and en plein air, weather permitting.
Each student will receive individual attention and critiques.
Demonstrations are designed to give students the tools to develop an understanding of this medium.

Painting with Pastels Level 2
Building on the lessons from Painting with Pastels Level 1, students learn more in-depth knowledge of using pastels, how to solve problems of composition and colour, creating the illusion of depth and lost and found edges. Underpainting is explored and learning how to prepare your own boards for painting using a mixture of gesso, pumice and acrylic medium. Studio & en plein air, weather permitting.
Sharon will provide demos to clarify each day's topic, assist students individually while working,
and conduct group critiques during the workshop.

Hand-eye coordination, the process of building a sketch, tone and detail rendering.
Intro to watercolour wash. Studio & en plein air, weather permitting.

Travel Sketch Journal
Capture on paper the memorable sights, experiences and feelings of a journey, or just everyday life. A Travel Sketch Journal challenges you to take the time to really see something and to commit it, in line and color, to the page. When combined, pencil, ink line and watercolor washes create a lively visual interplay pleasing to the eye. A good introduction for those new to sketching and/or painting, the results are fun, unexpected, and often wonderful.
This workshop covers: Sketching basics - the fundamentals of observation, gesture, shading, perspective and composition. Watercolour and Colour Theory basics - become comfortable working with watercolour and learn how to apply light watercolour washes that enhance your sketches. Sharon will provide demos to clarify each day's topic, assist students individually while working, and conduct group critiques during the workshop.
Each day begins in the studio, then we travel out to different locations. Wineries, the beach, quaint villages, the harbour, the itinerary is dependant on the time of year and weather.
